FAQs

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is a set of breathing techniques that are used individually or in sequence to have a specific effect on the body and mind - calming, balancing or activating. It includes yogic breathing exercises (pranayama), as well as different modern practices.
It is not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment, but it can complement therapeutic or personal development work.

Is breathwork safe for everybody?

Although everyone can practice breathwork, some health conditions might limit the recommended types of exercises or their rhythm. That is why before your first session or event you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire, to ensure safety and comfort at all times.

What are the potential benefits of breathwork?

Depending on the set of techniques used, a breathwork session might help you reduce stress or increase your energy levels. In general, breathwork contributes to nervous system regulation, stress amangement, increased focus and mental clarity, emotional processing, and improve interoceptive awareness (sensing internal body signals). With breathwork, you can discover simple tools that you can use to switch your mindset or improve physical performance in a few minutes amidst your usual daily activities, as well as experience states of expanded consciousness to do a deep dive into your emotions, past experiences, or desires.

Do you offer both in-person and online sessions?

Yes. Individual, as well as group sessions are available in both formats. For groups over 5 people, I recommend an in-person sessions, if possible.

What do I need for an online session?

To participate/organize an online session, I recommend that you ensure a stable internet connection, as well as an adequate sound solution (preferably with headphones, so that you or your participants feel more immersed in the practice). A laptop is preferred over a mobile phone. No specific software is needed and if you have a preferred platform (Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, etc), please let me know. Finally, I recommend that you find a quiet and comfortable place so that the communication throughout the session runs smoothly and your practice is not interrupted.

What is therapeutic dance?

Therapeutic dance is a guided movement practice that uses the body as a pathway for emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and self-expression. There is no pressure about choreography or performance, as the goal is to explore yourself, your patterns and your experiences. It combines music, intentional prompts, breath awareness, and somatic principles, and there are moments when participants can share their insights as part of their personal process.
It is not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment, but it can complement therapeutic or personal development work.

Who is therapeutic dance for?

Since there are no performance goals and no prior dance experience is needed, anybody can attend these sessions - but please inform the facilitator in case you have any health condition that might be relevant. Therapeutic dance can be specially helpful for people who spend most of their time "in their head", struggle to access emotions verbally, experience stress or chronic tension, or simply want to explore themselves. It is also an opportunity to find community in a non-competitive space.

What are the potential benefits of therapeutic dance?

While experiences vary, participants often claim it improves their mood and helps them process their emotions and patterns, reduces muscle tension, increases mobility and stamina, and it helps people feel more comfortable with being seen and "taking up space". Some participants get breakthroughs, because they get into a state of flow that quiets the usual "noise" and fosters creativity.

Do you offer individual and group sessions?

Yes. You can request 1:1 sessions in case you want to work on a specific goal or create a specialised plan. Group sessions can have up to 30 participants.

Do the sessions take place in Kuahlia studio or in a place of the participant's choice?

At the moment, Kuahlia has no studio yet, so if you would like to experience therapeutic dance outside of our events, please arrange an adequate space (we recommend a minimum of 25 m2 for individual sessions and an extra 5 m2 for each additional participant). If the weather allows it, outdoor spaces might be suitable, as long as the floor is safe for dancing barefoot.

What can I request for my corporate event?

Depending on the role that this session plays on your event, it might include breathwork, therapeutic dance, guided meditation, team building exercises, and sharing circles. These are often combined with (but not focused on) art, aromatherapy and sound healing, for a more immersive experience.

How can I request a Kuahlia session for my corporate event?

In the case of a corporate event, please book a call to discuss all the details (number and type of participants, context of the event, timing of the session, space, equipment, etc).
